Teacher Feature — Meet Ms. Katie!

Meet Ms. Katie
Stringham_C_71429-9776One of the things I enjoyed the most about working alongside these fantastic women was getting to know them outside of class. I know it can be hard when chasing a kid around the studio to take a moment and meet a teacher. So I thought it would be helpful, as a regular feature here on the studio blog, to share a few thing you may not know about them.
Ms. Katie has been teaching at Song of the Heart Studios for 4 years, this fall. Chances are, you’ve been lucky to spend some time with her.
Miss Katie’s favorites:
Kindermusik Song: Tie between “Hop Up My Baby” and “Liza Jane.”
Current song on the radio: Titanium (she loves to belt it out in the kitchen, or run to it)
Movie: Pitch Perfect
Quote: “I was born with music inside me. Music was one of my parts. Like my ribs, my kidneys, my liver, my heart. Like my blood. It was a force already within me when I arrived on the scene. It was a necessity for me – like food or water.”–Ray Charles
Betcha didn’t know that in 2004 she went to Las Vegas to audition for American Idol. She waited in the 4 hour line with her brother Andrew, whom she dragged along with her. She went to the stadium where they told them it would be a week long process. Unfortunately, she was nursing her daughter at the time and she would not take a bottle, so she “chickened out and went home.” Carrie Underwood was the winner that year. Miss Katie says, “Looking back, I wish I would have stuck it out. My family keeps teasing me to audition for ‘The Voice.’”
Have you had Miss Katie for a teacher? What have you enjoyed about her classes? Please share in the comments!
