The Things They’ve Learned

The Things They’ve Learned

About this time of year the JOY Team starts seeing the real fruits of their labors. We witness amazing growth in your children from last September to this Spring. We reflect back on their beginnings and are blown away by the development we’ve seen.

We only get to spend 45-60 minutes with your child once a week, and you get them full time! So the growth can be more apparent to us than perhaps it is to you, who witness the incremental gains over time.

Think back to when you started attending classes with your current teacher. Do you have any photos of your child from back then? Compare them to now! Not only do they grow, but they also gain skills and develop in so many ways.

More than just how they’ve grown, we see how much they’ve learned in our classes. Especially in our Little Music Makers classes, when you drop your child off. In the beginning, without the guidance of their caregivers, they didn’t know where to sit, how to take turns, how to behave in a group classroom setting, how to rest their instruments, how to follow the conductor, how to play as an ensemble, etc.

Now, however, we see them watching us keenly, following our cues to rest, ready, and play. They are expressive and creative in their movements. They are quick to discover new and interesting ways to play their percussion instruments.

Depending on which level curriculum they are in, they have built a repertoire of songs on their glockenspiels, recorders, and dulcimers. They are singing in their head voices with a nice tone and with supportive posture. They are reading and writing rhythms and melodies. And so much more!

These early years of magical music making establish such a remarkable foundation of life, school, and musical skills that will benefit your children throughout their lives in the long term, but also in the here and now. They will have such an easier time than their non-Kindermusik peers as they transition into their school years. Thank you for giving them this head start in learning!

Let’s keep that learning and joyful music making going!
