Winter Wonderland: A Song of the Heart Tradition

Winter Wonderland: A Song of the Heart Tradition

Did you come to our Winter Wonderland Week? It’s one of our favorite weeks here at Song of the Heart Studios. This is our time to fully immerse ourselves in traditional carols and to play together in a joyous way within the theme of the season.

Some of our favorite activities are EASILY reproduced at home. While you’re at home the next couple of weeks, try recreating some of your favorite Kindermusik activities you enjoyed this last week. Here are some suggestions:

Paper Plate Ice Skating. Did your class get to slide around on paper plate “ice skates” and swirl and spin to The Skater’s Waltz? You can do this at home with paper plates, but you can also just do some sock slides around the kitchen. Better yet, help your child put together a creative costume and they can “perform” some figure skating for you while you sit on the couch enjoying a beverage.

Going on a Sleigh Ride. Maybe you got to ride a stick horse, wear antlers, or pull your little one around in a laundry basket. Sleigh Ride is an exciting song that always brings a smile. Dump the laundry out of that basket and tie a scarf to it, and take your little one for a ride around the house. You could make paper antlers to clip into their hair or just hand them a broom and tell them it’s a horse and let them trot around while you cook dinner. Or have your child put their favorite stuffed animal on a pillow or a towel, tie a string to the pillowcase or towel corners, and let your child give their toys a ride. A little music adds the magic and they can be entertained for a long time giving each of their plushies or dolls a ride around the house.

Having a “snowball” fight. Ah, the ubiquitous colorful scarves. We LOVE this prop and use it regularly in all of our classes. With a little imagination it can be so many things. We love scooping it up and scrunching it into a ball and throwing it each other. Grab a pile of dish cloths or hand your little one a box of tissues, turn on A Marshmallow World, and let them throw “snow” at you. They love it!

We hope you loved our Winter Wonderland lesson as much as we do! What was your favorite activity last week?
