Age Is Just a Guideline

At Song of the Heart, we believe in placing your child where they will benefit the most developmentally.

While age is a helpful marker that often correlates with developmental milestones, it’s not the only gauge. Kindermusik isn’t like public school with a hard September 1st cut-off date. Our age recommendations are flexible and designed to adapt to your child’s individual growth and needs.

That means we can’t say, “All 3-year-olds belong in Level 3,” because:

• Your 3-year-old might be a young 3 and not yet ready to separate from you.

• Or your budding preschooler might be hyper-independent and ready to move up the moment they turn 3—even mid-season.

Other Factors to Consider

Your child’s developmental stage is important—but it’s not the only consideration.

• You may want a class that lines up with an older sibling’s schedule.

• Your child may be ready for independence, but you’re not ready to give up that special bonding time.

• You may prefer to stay in a familiar group because of the friendships you’ve built.
